Greensboro, N.C., November 29, 2010 — After six years of hosting TRIAD IDOL, a singing competition for individuals age 8 to 108, the Community Theatre of Greensboro (CTG) announced today that it is adding CT-Glee, an ensemble category, to TRIAD IDOL 2011.
“With all the renewed interest in show choirs and musical theatre generated by the hit TV show Glee, all of us at CTG are confident that CT-Glee will take TRIAD IDOL to even greater heights by bringing in a whole new segment of performers,” explains CTG Executive Director Mitchel Sommers. Any ensemble of five or more performers—school chorus, show choir, church choir, a capella group, or friends who enjoy singing together—may participate in CT-Glee. All ensemble members must be at least eight years old as of February 18, 2011. CT-Glee participants also may audition individually for TRIAD IDOL 2011.
To participate in CT-Glee, ensembles must submit a completed registration form, which will include a roster of members as well as a short essay, along with a $30 registration fee and a 3-5-minute video, by 5 pm on Friday, February 4, 2011. Videos may be posted on-line or submitted on a DVD to the CTG office at 200 North Davie Street, Greensboro, NC 27401.
CTG will post the list of CT-Glee semi-finalists no later than 5 pm on Monday, February 14, 2011. Semi-finalists will perform at the Carolina Theatre in downtown Greensboro on Sunday, March 6, 2011. At the end of that semi-final event, CTG will announce the CT-Glee finalists, who will perform at the TRIAD IDOL Final Event at the Carolina Theatre on Sunday, March 20, 2011.
In a process similar to the one CTG uses for TRIAD IDOL, four on-stage judges will account for 80% of each CT-Glee ensemble’s score, while the audience vote ($1/vote) will account for 20% of each ensemble’s score at both the semi-finals and Final Event.
Individuals to compete in TRIAD IDOL 2011
Over the first six seasons of TRIAD IDOL, nearly 4,000 singers from the ages of 8 to 72 auditioned. Once again, this contest will be open to people in three age groups: 8-12 years old, 13-18 years old, and 19 and older.
